Modern Confession…Mr. Romantic

The last modern confession found within the walls of the church is:  “A loving God will let everyone have eternal life”.

This confession is held by many more people than you think. The premise is that a loving God would not send anyone to hell, for that is an unloving thing to do. At first glance many would seem to agree with this confession but there is a problem with it. Jesus Christ said He alone was the way to the Father (John 14:6…again…this is a real important verse). Further, Paul takes up this issue in Romans 5:1-2 where he states that peace with God is only found through Jesus Christ. So to say that God is loving is valid. But to say that because God is loving, He will extend eternal life to all without need of coming through Jesus is simply not true. To say, once again, that Jesus is not essential to the process goes against what the Bible teaches.

The simple truth is God can be a legitimately loving God and still condemn individuals to Hell. While this sounds harsh, it need not be. The reality is He has extended relationship to every human being through Jesus his son. Romans 6:23 tells us that while the wage of sin is death, the gift of God is eternal life is Jesus Christ. Instead of turning a blind eye to the evils of this world and extending eternal life to all God has offered a choice to every person. That choice is a belief, a confession, that Jesus Christ is the only way to have eternal life. And this confession, is the only one that leads to life.
